House System

The House System at Masefield Primary School

In September 2025, we launched our new House System. The purpose of our House System is to foster authentic relationships between all members of our learning community to create an environment where all feel connected, safe, seen, and valued. Through our House System, we aim to:

  • Generate a feeling of belonging among pupils and staff;

  • Increase pupil achievement: academically, socially, and emotionally;

  • Increase intrinsic motivation;

  • Increase pupil and family engagement;

  • Develop pupil efficacy in leadership and;

  • Develop school culture through unique traditions.

House Sorting

Pupils and staff will gather together in year group phases as anticipation builds for the Sorting Ceremony. The ceremony opens with speeches from the Staff House Leaders, each sharing their vision and hopes for their House, helping to set the tone and inspire pride and belonging. Following this, the sorting itself begins in a moment of excitement and suspense. One by one, children and staff will step forward to press a large red button. Upon pressing it, a dramatic animation will play on the screen, revealing the House that has ‘chosen’ them. This element of randomness is key—it ensures that every individual feels selected and connected to their House in a meaningful way, rather than simply placed.

For any new pupils who join during the  school year, the sorting will take place during the weekly Friday Good News Assembly, ensuring they too receive a warm welcome and moment of celebration. New staff members will also be chosen by their house in the same way. Looking ahead, from September 2026 onwards, the sorting of new Year One pupils will become an annual whole-school tradition. This special event will continue to foster a sense of unity, celebration, and belonging across the school community, as each new member is officially welcomed into their House in front of peers and staff.

Our Houses

Each House has unique properties such as its own colour, symbols, nation of heritage, history and more. Over time, each House also starts to take on its own values and personality driven by the culture of the pupils and staff within it.

When pupils are sorted into their Houses, we like to say that pupils are chosen based on the qualities and characteristics that they value, rather than the ones they necessarily exhibit on that day. This casts a vision for each pupil to grow into the positive attributes of their House.

It is important to communicate the value of these tight-knit learning and leadership communities to parents and staff. Having the broadest level of buy in and understanding from others will encourage the pupils and drive more and more excitement behind the Houses, the points, Spirit Days, the championships and the school overall.

Message from the House Team Leader

I’m incredibly proud and excited to be the House Team Leader for Amistad – the House of Friendship. Amistad stands for kindness, connection, and the strength we find in supporting one another—and I can’t think of a better team to be part of.

Friendship is at the heart of everything we do at Masefield Primary School. Whether we’re working together in class, cheering each other on in competitions, or simply looking out for someone who needs a smile, the Amistad spirit shines through.

I can’t wait to celebrate our achievements, encourage every voice, and make this year one to remember for all our Amistad champions! Let’s show the school what the power of true friendship can do.

Let’s go, Team Amistad!

Message from the House Team Leader

I am honoured and excited to be the House Team Leader for Isibindi – the House of Courage. Isibindi represents bravery, resilience, and standing up for what is right, even when it’s not easy—and I am passionate about helping our team live out those values every single day.

Being courageous doesn’t always mean being the loudest or the boldest; sometimes it means trying again after a setback, speaking up for someone else, or stepping outside your comfort zone. I am so proud to lead a house that celebrates these everyday acts of strength and determination.

As Team Isibindi, we will encourage one another, face challenges with confidence, and strive to be fearless learners and kind-hearted leaders. I can’t wait to see all the incredible things we will achieve together this year.

Let’s be brave, be bold, and be brilliant—go Team Isibindi!

Message from the House Team Leader

I am delighted to introduce myself as the House Team Leader for Rêveur – the House of Dreamers. The name "Rêveur" comes from the French word for "dreamer" or "idealist," and it embodies the spirit of those who dare to imagine and pursue their aspirations with passion and determination.

Being part of Rêveur means embracing creativity, resilience, and the courage to think beyond the conventional. Our house celebrates the power of imagination and the belief that with vision and effort, dreams can become reality. I am excited to lead a team where each member is encouraged to explore their potential, support one another, and contribute positively to our school community.

Together, let's inspire each other to dream big, work hard, and make a meaningful impact. Here's to a fantastic journey ahead with Team Rêveur!

Message from the House Team Leader

I’m absolutely thrilled to be the House Team Leader for Sollevare – the House of Uplifting. Sollevare, which means “to lift up” in Italian, represents everything I believe in as a teacher and a person—raising each other up, encouraging kindness, and helping everyone to be the best version of themselves.

In Team Sollevare, we believe in the power of positivity, support, and unity. Whether we’re celebrating a friend’s success, offering a helping hand, or simply spreading joy, our house is built on the idea that we rise by lifting others. That’s why I’m so excited to lead a team that values empathy, encouragement, and strength of character.

Together, we will build one another up, face challenges with optimism, and show the true power of a caring community. Let’s shine brightly and lift each other higher—go Team Sollevare!

House Team Traditions

Please see the information below to learn about each House Team's traditions.

Amistad

During Spirit Days, as the House of Friendship, Amistad has a tradition of surprising members of our school with notes of appreciation pinned on our wall of friendship — regardless of another pupil’s or staff member's House. This simple tradition encourages pupils in the House of Amistad that it is always important to show kindness and appreciation towards others.

Isibindi

During Spirit Days, pupils in the House of Isibindi can nominate a fellow House member who has shown quiet or bold courage—whether by standing up for someone, speaking out with honesty, or trying again after failure. Nominations are pinned on our wall of courage and one pupil (chosen by the Staff and Pupil House Leaders) is awarded The House of Courage Badge, which they wear for the following term. This tradition encourages pupils in the House of Isibindi to recognise and value courage in everyday acts, reinforcing the idea that bravery takes many forms.

Rêveur

During Spirit Days, Rêveur has a tradition of pupils setting a personal dream or goal for the term. These are pinned on our wall of dreams to remind pupils of their individual dreams and goals. This tradition encourages pupils in the House of Rêveur to be ambitious and to dream big!

Sollevare

During Spirit Days, the House of Sollevare gathers in a Shine Circle, where each pupil is invited to say write and say something uplifting about the person to their right. These messages are pinned on our wall of upliftment. This tradition encourages pupils in the House of Sollevare to show gratitude, builds bonds and it leaves everyone feeling valued and seen.
