Supporting Learning at Home

At Masefield Primary School we passionately believe in a strong positive partnership between home and school.

We believe that good communication between parents, carers and school is vital for our children to achieve their very best. Each term we hold parent conference sessions where parents can find out more about their child’s learning and progress and how they can support this at home. Our regular classroom visits and parent workshops offer additional opportunities for parents to be involved in supporting learning.

Visit our Learning and Curriculum pages for more information and resources to support learning at home.

Key Stage Two

We also provide access to two powerful online platforms that children can use at home: NumBots and Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRockstars). Both platforms are fun, interactive, and proven to help pupils master key number skills through regular, short practice.

NumBots – Developing Addition and Subtraction Fluency

Who it's for: Primarily used in Reception, Year One, and Year Two.
Focus: Understanding number, place value, addition and subtraction facts.

How it helps: NumBots builds a solid foundation in number sense. It encourages children to move from counting to recalling number facts automatically—an essential step in becoming confident with more advanced maths.

How to use it at home:

  • Encourage your child to play regularly—just 5–10 minutes a day can make a big difference.

  • Praise their effort and progress through the levels.

  • Sit with them occasionally to talk about strategies or celebrate their achievements.

Times Tables Rock Stars – Mastering Multiplication and Division

Who it's for: Year Two, Year Three, Year Four, Year Five and Year Six.
Focus: Rapid recall of times tables and division facts.

How it helps: Quick and accurate recall of times tables underpins success in many areas of maths, including problem-solving, fractions, and long multiplication. TTRockstars makes learning tables exciting through rock-themed games, competitions, and personal avatars.

How to use it at home:

  • Aim for regular short sessions (3–5 times per week).

  • Use the “Garage” and “Studio” modes for tailored practice.

  • Join in! Family battles and friendly competitions are a great way to stay motivated.

Accessing the Platforms
Your child’s login details for both platforms can be found inside their reading record. They are the same details they will use to log in to PurpleMash. If you need support logging in or using the platforms, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

By using NumBots and TTRockstars regularly at home, you are helping to build your child’s mathematical confidence, fluency, and enjoyment. Thank you for your continued support.

At Masefield Primary School, we believe that strong home-school partnerships are key to every child’s success. Our home learning expectations are designed to reinforce and extend learning beyond the classroom, helping pupils to develop independence, resilience, and a love for learning.

Reading at Home

Daily reading is one of the most effective ways to support children’s progress across the curriculum. We ask that children read at home at least five times per week and that this is recorded in their reading records. Regular reading builds vocabulary, improves comprehension, and fosters a lifelong love of books. It also provides valuable one-to-one time with an adult, helping to nurture confidence and fluency.

Spelling Practice – Years One to Six

Weekly spelling tests are held from Year One to Year Six. Pupils are expected to practise their spellings regularly at home. To support this, we use Spelling Shed, an engaging and interactive online platform that allows children to practise their weekly words through fun activities and games. Consistent spelling practice enhances writing skills and helps pupils apply accurate spelling across all areas of their learning. The spellings that your child will be focussing on each week can be found in their reading record. They should practice these at home as well as at school. You can also find your child's Spelling Shed login details in their reading record - the details are the same as their username and password for PurpleMash except you will need to add 00 onto the end of the password.

Learning by Questions – Years Three to Six

Pupils in Years Three to Six are set weekly Learning by Questions (LbQ) tasks. These short, focused tasks are designed to consolidate classroom learning and help identify areas for improvement. Each child has their own LbQ login details, which can be found inside their reading record. These activities provide immediate feedback and support children in mastering key concepts in English, Mathematics, and beyond.

Home Learning Menus and Curriculum Overviews

Each half term, you will be sent a link to a Home Learning Menu and Curriculum Overview for your child's year group. This outlines the expectations for weekly homework, as well as optional project tasks to develop and extend children's learning in the foundation subjects.

The Use of Technology Agreements at Masefield Primary School

At Masefield, we are committed to preparing our pupils to be responsible and respectful users of technology. As part of this, we ask all children to agree to and abide by our Technology Agreement. This agreement outlines the expectations for safe, respectful, and appropriate use of digital devices and the internet, both in school and at home.

These agreements are important because they:

 1. Promote Safe Online Behaviour

Children are taught how to protect themselves online, including understanding age restrictions, safeguarding personal information, and recognising inappropriate content or contact. The agreement reinforces these lessons and reminds pupils to speak to a trusted adult if they feel uncomfortable online.

 2. Encourage Digital Responsibility

By signing the agreement, children take ownership of their online actions. They learn to use technology respectfully, avoid misuse of devices, and value the digital work and privacy of others.

 3. Build Good Habits for the Future

The agreement supports pupils in developing a healthy relationship with technology—balancing screen time, being polite online, and recognising the permanence of shared content. These habits are essential as they grow into responsible digital citizens.

 4. Support Learning at Home and School

With increasing access to online platforms, including educational tools, it’s vital that children understand how to use technology appropriately wherever they are. The agreement provides consistency between home and school expectations.

 5. Keep Everyone Safe

Masefield Primary has robust systems in place to monitor and filter content, but we rely on children and parents working in partnership with us to maintain a safe digital environment. The Technology Agreement is a shared commitment to keeping all pupils safe.

We encourage all parents and carers to discuss the agreement with their children and help reinforce safe online practices at home. If you ever have questions or concerns about your child’s use of technology, we are here to help.
